Jonathan Katz, Managing Director


Jonathan Katz is a Managing Director with Katz, Kane & Co. He has more than 28 years of experience structuring creative financial solutions for distressed companies. Before founding Katz, Kane & Co., Mr. Katz was most recently Managing Director and founding Co-Head of the Restructuring Group at GCA (then GCA Savvian), the global investment bank. Prior to joining GCA, Jon was the founder of Panagos Katz Situational Investing which he formed in partnership with Steven G. Panagos and Kohlberg Capital Corporation to invest in the debt and equity of distressed companies.

Prior to launching PKSI, Mr. Katz was the Founding Partner of JPMorgan Special Situations Investing, JPMorgan’s distressed investing vehicle for North America ($200 million initial funding). Recognizing the market opportunity for a reasonable-lender approach to value investing in the distressed markets, Mr. Katz first proposed SSI and subsequently drove the new business approval process through to establishment, funding and launch.

Mr. Katz began his banking career at JPMorgan (then Chase Securities) in Syndicated & Leveraged Finance. He then moved to JPMorgan’s Special Credits Group, where he restructured over $6 billion of senior syndicated credit facilities of North American Investment Banking clients. Prior to joining JPMorgan, Mr. Katz practiced corporate and securities law at Seward & Kissel. Following law school but before practicing law, he spent a year as an associate in the equities and derivatives trading program at Spear Leeds & Kellogg (now Goldman Sachs).

Mr. Katz has been a much sought after speaker on matters relating to restructuring distressed companies and has spoken at events at the University of Texas Law School, the University of Hawaii Law School, the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law, the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, and Harvard Business School, among other venues. He has also been a recurring commentator on Fox Business News.

Mr. Katz received a JD from the University of Michigan Law School and a BA from Wesleyan University’s College of Social Studies. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
